What is volume?
It is a measurement of the relative bulk of paper for a given grammage. The higher the volume number the bulkier the stock. The basis is that 10 leaves of 100gsm Volume 10 = 1mm.
The method for measuring the substance of a paper is by weighing one square metre of a single sheet. The gives the substance of the paper in ‘grammes per square metre’ and the figure is consistent whatever the size of the sheet.
